Try NOT bobbing your head to this one ...

I don't have time to write long posts right now ...

Raheem DeVaughn - Position

Seriously though ... see if you can refrain from snapping your fingers, bobbing your head, tapping your feet or dancing in your chair. I'm doing all of them as you read!!!

I listen to her heartbeat because it plays my favorite song ...

So I'll be short with this post since I'm really busy and tired. Another R&B / Hip-Hop Collabo ... is anyone seeing a theme here??

Anyways, Mario is bad ... homeboy can genuinely sing. We all bumped his hits 'Let Me Love You' and 'How Do I Breathe' and I've had this track on repeat for a minute lately. For someone who's only 21 years old, his lyrics are pretty amazing.

Mario - Crying out for me (Remix feat Lil Wayne)

I really enjoy Lil Wayne's rap at the top of the track too.

I said I'll keep it short so go ahead and let it bump already! - RR22

K-Ci Help Me SING!!

So the other day a friend of mine was sending me random lyrics from R&B tracks to see if I could guess the song ... I did pretty well (no surprise there, right?), but I was finally stumped on one that was just a tad before my time. We got on the subject of what artists we 'grew up with.' He's only a few years older than I am, but the artists each of us kick back and reminisce with were, surprisingly, entirely different.

Everyone has those artists that they latch on to at various points in their life. This group, which I've mentioned here previously, is one that I can say helped define what I now appreciate as great R&B music. Granted, there's much respect for the old school, the Al Green's and Marvin Gaye's, the New Edition's and Hi-Five's, etc. ... but this group ... this group OWNED the 90's.

Jodeci - Cry For You

They're a special group ... Whether it's the way they make the ladies feel loved with their lyrics or the fact that fellas can enjoy busting out an "Oooooooh YEEAAAH" it's clear they transcend both male and female fans ... tough to do for some R&B artists. You can pick from about 20 of their songs to set the mood, whether it be a night cap with someone you're just getting to know, or celebrating an anniversary with the ONE you know is yours forever.

They may not be making music together anymore, but I'm grateful for all they gave of themselves already.

Who is One Chance?

So I found this track a couple months ago thinking it was something new but I did my research and found out that it was released on the soundtrack of a movie called In the Mix back in 2005.

It comes from a group out of Chicago, a city that is quickly becoming more and more of a hotbed for male R&B vocalists with the likes of Avant, Dave Hollister and Carl Thomas joining the self-proclaimed 'pied piper of R&B' R. Kelly.

I guess they've been working on an album for a few years now but the release date keeps getting pushed out. Hopefully 2008 is their year and I can add them to the list of artists who's album release I'm anticipating because I personally believe we're in a drought of male R&B groups putting out good music right now. Where oh where have you gone Jodeci, 112 and Boyz II Men???

Can't spell the West without tha ES!

Not much needs to be said about this artist at all ...

  • He's been doing it like nobody else, reppin' the East Side of Long Beach since 1993 starting with his first album - one of the best rap albums EVER!
  • He's one of my top 3 favorite rap artists of all time (chances are, one of yours too) ...
  • He's been able to take us on all sorts of different journeys from house parties to murder trials ...
  • He's responsible for taking his own style of slang AND deeznuts jokes mainstream ...

The man never ceases to amaze me ... whether it be because of his crazy lyrics and unique music videos or establishing a youth football league for underprivileged shorties and finally telling Suge Knight to get the hell on!

Snoop Dogg - Sensual Seduction

This track has all the classic Snoop traits ... he spits game at the ladies, he brings a sound that you wouldn't necessarily expect from him to the turntables, and lays it down with that mellow voice we've all come to enjoy.

Fellas, play the track for your lady and then tell her to 'drop it likes it's hot' ... Let it bump - RR22

Somebody get out the febreeze ...

So when I first played this track I thought the first 30 seconds were from some sort of video game or something. I really didn't know what to think. Memories of playing Duck Hunt on the OG Nintendo started running through my head.

It actually took me like 15 tries to listen to it the whole way through. I thought, how could these two cats do something like this? Could they really make a track that I'm not feeling at all? They're one of the hottest collabos in R&B & hip-hop both reppin' the HOTlanta!

Oddly though, the more I listened to it the more I liked it ... it started to grow on me, but the moment I realized I really liked it was when I was strolling through the Santee Alleys in downtown LA. I heard the intro bumping out of some cat's boombox trying to sell bootleg CD's and seeing people's reaction to it made me realize that, regardless if they liked it or not, they'd remember where they were when they heard it.

Usher feat Ludacris - That Girl Right There

It's funky ... so funky that you need to spray some febreeze if you play it loud enough!! The beat is tight and those video game sounds ... they work for me. Ludacris puts it down as usual and the harmony Usher hits during the bridge is SICK!!

Hopefully when you hear it in the club and realize that you like it too, you'll think back to when you hit up my blog. ;-)
